Turn Barn Wood Into Art

Barnwood Art

Wherever you decide to source it from, using reclaimed barn wood to make barnwood art has so many benefits. First of all, it’s eco-friendly—if you do not use this wood, it will likely end up rotting in a junkyard someday. For another, reclaimed barn wood is more mature than fresh-cut lumber, which typically makes it more durable, so your reclaimed barnwood art projects will stand the test of time.

But the biggest reason to use reclaimed barn wood is that it looks amazing! Rustic themed interiors are all quite trendy right now, and this is the perfect way to capture that down-home look and feel of old America. Whether you find your barn wood for sale on the side of the road or online, it makes amazing art. Here’s a prime example of barnwood art:

Make a plywood base of 24" x 24" x 1/2”. Next, do some brainstorming to figure out your layout and sketch them out by hand. After you create a handful of designs, take those ideas and head out to look for some barn wood for sale.

Start by subdividing the plywood into quadrants and always leave room on the outside edges to trim pieces for any error in alignment of the barn wood. It’s wood. It’s old. There’s going to be an error in barnwood art. Cut your barn wood pieces and lay them out on the plywood backing. A little wood glue and some brad nails will hold the wood in place. Once the glue is dry, trim the entire square using a circular or a table saw. Finish it off by adding some mounting hardware.
